Ghibli news abounds.
Apparently Hideaki Anno, creator of Neon Genesis Evangelion, has been chomping at the bit for years for a pop at a sequel to Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind and it looks like he's finally been let loose because Hayao Miyazaki has either given up on stopping him or is getting curious as to what might happen. Sounds like Stockholm Syndrome to me.
Now, personally, I really dislike Eva. That being said, you can see how letting Anno lose on a film about people in machinery taking care of giant monsters would make a lot of sense. Supposedly Nausicaä was actually an influence on Eva. It's also worth keeping in mind that Nausicaä was based on a manga that hadn't yet finished so there's not too much wrong with sequelling it up.
Whether Anno actually does anything with this newfound creative license is entirely up in the air but what would you guys like to see? Me, I'm not too fussed and I'm off to see what else is on.
