Fancy yourself as a budding artist?  Would you like to put your twist on some mayamada characters?  How about winning free prizes from mayamada including t-shirts and comics? 

For anyone who doesn't know Mayamada. they are a bunch of people who made this brand at uni and even a comic book. Since their manga sold well they branched out and made a clothing range. The lovely Mayamada team have been turning up at all the recent conventions such as LFCC, London Anime Con MCM Expo and Hyper Japan selling their new range of merchandise, the stylish slap back caps, tee shirt designs and also organising their own events.

Colour me happy 

For the latest project they're calling on you to submit your own coloured page from the Samurai Chef Origins comic.  Enter the Samurai Chef artwork competition and you will be in with a chance of winning some fantastic prizes. 

How to enter 

To get involved, just download and print any of the black and white pages from the Samurai Chef Origins comic and add some flavour with your own colours.  The pages can be downloaded from the mayamada website -  

All valid coloured page entries will be added to mayamada’s online gallery and tweeted with the hashtag #AddSomeFlavour.   

The mayamada team will shortlist entries from each age category to put to a public vote.  The top voted entrants from each age category will be crowned winners. 

Winners will be announced on the mayamada blog on 31st May 2014 and contacted directly by email. 


 The winning entries will receive a mayamada prize bag containing a Samurai Chef t-shirt, comic and more.  

 Plus, the winner in each age category will receive a framed copy of their coloured page signed by the team at mayamada. 

 A few rules….  

Comic artwork can be coloured in whatever medium you wish; whether it’s inked by hand, painted or photoshopped. You can send as many attempts as you like, but only one entry person can make it to the shortlist so get creative and make sure to give your best work. 

 Please send your artwork in JPEG, PNG, TIFF or PDF formats in A4 size at 300dpi to by 31st May 2014. 

The competition is open to two age categories: 6-12 years and 12+ years.Parental consent will need to be provided for children under 16 years.

mayamada is a Japanese anime inspired brand based in London.  Set in a fantasy television world with an all animal cast, the brand was created by Nigel Twumasi and Lao K, two Londoners with a love of t-shirts and creating stories, fusing both into a world filled with character.
