Chrome Shelled Regios was originally a Japanese light novel series by Shūsuke Amagi, with illustrations by Miyū. From these humble beginning it was adaptated into a Manga. A second manga adaptation was then made drawn by a different artist Nodoka Kiyose. A third manga adaptation drawn by Watari then lastly a four-panel comic strip adaptation drawn by Masumi Futaba in 2008. After many adaptation, Zexcs, produced an anime in 2009 which was thenlicensed by Funimation Entertainment.

Weirdly this a dated anime but you don't really feel it upon watching, probably becuase the anime is based in the future in post-apocalyptic polluted earth overrun with mutated beasts. Humanity is forced to live in large mobile cities called Regios and learn to use weapons called DITE and harness the power of Kei to defend themselves against 'Filth Monsters'

In the Academy City of Zuellni, students are being trained to support their worlds as farmers, carpenters and fighters. The Student Council President and Nina Antalk, a Military Arts exentric and someone physcho at times  take a fancy to the new student, Layfon Alseif. He on the other hand came to the academy to to start a new life without Military arts - NOT HAPPENING. It is like the student council president has already caught the stench of blood on the innocent looking Layfon.

Nina makes it her duty to force on her heavy fighting regime and generally harass poor Layfon. The series pretty much follows Layfon's life in Zuellni and shows us random bursts of flash backs in his life in Glenden, which I am curious to find out about. Leaving his doting girlfriend behind and looking at his general attitude this guy can't be the ultimate fighting machine...can he?

By the way if you didn't know 'Regios' is used to describe the large mobile cities the humans created and live on. Each city is named after the Electronic Spirit that controls the Regios. I am not quite sure how I feel about this anime. It's quite serious and suddenly you have a slap stick joke. I don't think it gels well. Mostly the american dubbing is off putting. We have vocal talents of was Kimihiro Watanuki from xxxHolic. As much as I love the voice talents of Todd Haberkorn it was like a dead husk listening to Lafon. Not relating with a protagonist puts me off !

MVM Entertainment released the first volume of Chrome Shelled Regios on Monday April 21. If your a fan of the hugely popular light novel series and manga then you need to watch this anime. If you like fighting and slice of life, keep the Japanese audio on and enjoy ^_^
