For most people it's a normal monday, for gamers it is the anniversary of the creation of a iconic platform game to make history - Sonic the hedgehog. Sonic turns 23 today so to most of us he's like little brother or a son, a landmark on Sega's history.
Credit goes to Yuji Naka the franchise creator, and is developed and owned by Sega. Sonic the human-headhoge being who spins really fats to get around lives a peacful lifeoccasionally disturbed by Doctor Eggman. Sonic usually must stop Eggman and foil any plans of world domination. From 1991 Sonic dominated the 90's in console gaming and spawned sequels.
Sonic isn't just limited to platform genre he has moved across into other genres such as action-adventure, fighting, racing, role-playing, and sports.
My favourite Sega console was the Sega Saturn, and none of the Saonic games werestandard platform games. The Saturn edition used 2.5D graphics, and added FMV cut-scenes and enhanced music and visual effects. My all time favourite SOnic game was released onb this console too which was Sonic Jam, a 3D game which was actually a compilation which within you unloacked original Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, and Sonic & Knuckles in the "Sonic World" mode. Apart from accessing the other games you could unloack the disc's multimedia features, including character artwork, the soundtrack, and Japanese Sonic videos. 1997 was a landmark for Sonic entering the 3D world.
Sadly Sega Dreamcast sales began to decline after the launch of the PlayStation 2;therefore very few Sonic games were released for the system. Sonic Adventure 2 was released for the Dreamcast in 2001, and was the last game in the series to be released for the Sega consoles. *startstearing up*
After 2001 the SOnic games lived on past the demise of Sega and went to all the other consoles including Gamecube, N64, PSP, DS, Ps3, Wii, Wii U and even a cameo in the Wreck it Ralph animated movie.
Be sure to tweet some birthday wishes to the blue fella ! Aisha Anime
