Here at UKAnifest we have had the pleasure to review some films, one of which is (out now on DVD) called the tower. This film blew box office records in Korea and became one of the best films last year, however we in the UK get it a year later!!
Its mad to think that the events that happen in the tower occur within one hour and fifty minutes... A tower burns up but takes its time to flesh out a story and give us jam packed entertainment!!
Its soon going to be christmas eve and a party is about to occur in a very high storey tower in Seoul. The tower comes in a pair and is connected to a bridge... a so called sky bridge. Single father Lee Dae-ho (Kim Sang-kyung) works as a manager at the tower and wants to get closer to the love interest Seo Yoon-hee (Son Ye-jin), who is a restaurant manager in the same building.
Lee Dae-ho manages to discover a problem with the water sprinklers but has chose to ignore it as the preparations of the upcoming party take precedent. Flash forward to the night of the party and Lee Dae-ho's daughter Ha-na (Jo Min-ah) arrives at the tower as her father promised her a white, white Christmas.
*Let the carnage commence*
Several helicopters carrying artificial snow circling the towers and the picture turns into a nightmare within seconds when a helicopter loses control because of an updraft and crashes into the tower, igniting a large-scale fire.
Featuring a big cast and all the ingredients that make a disaster movie, the stylish film is amazing when it comes to effects, with plenty of Hollywood-type drama designed to tug at the audience's heartstrings. The impressive effects that are pretty on par with Hollywood productions and for a disaster movie that seems to focus on nothing much but a tower on fire, the story is surprisingly very well laid-out.
Not bad at all for a popcorn movie on the sofa, late at night!!
