Game: Disgaea 4 Revisted by Aisha Anime

Disgaea 4 Revisited

Platform: PS Vita

Publisher: Nis

Price: £29.99

The fourth in the series, Disgaea is back with quirky weapon descriptions and cheesy jokes which we love it for. This game does not take itself seriously and laughs at itself as we follow the topsey turvey Netherworld. Using old school RPG fighting methods similar to that of Final Fantasy Tactics, where strategy is key to winning.

The PS Vita remake is an enhanced port of the 2011 PlayStation 3 title originally named A Promise Unforgotten. The Disgaea games, in my opinion work best on a handheld console as it is easier to grind through stages to level up items/weapons whilst sitting on the train than focusing your free time at home on it. Also the updated version is worth investing in because of all the new additions and changes including extra music tracks, new character classes, DLC and new scenarios !

We are now following a new set of characters – this time we follow a vampire protagonist who is interestingly enough no one in power but a mere Prinny Instructor. He has been landed this role after losing his former strength after a foolish promise (made 400 years ago)to not drink human blood again – and substitutes his blood lust with sardines.  This plot filled me with joy meaning the iconic Penguin demons lacky’s are now an integral part of the story.

When the government orders the mass extermination of all Prinnies, Valvatorez sets off with his loyal vassal, Fenrich, to stop the madness. The game counts his attempts to overthrow the government and pokes fun at real life politics including some jokes relating to President Obama. Also the politics overflow in to the gameplay now including calling assembly. Any seasoned Disgaea player knows you ‘call assembly’ to unlock new character classes, hidden areas, character strengths. Now via the new ‘Cam-pain HQ’ you can also arrange people on the Netherworld to protect it from Government attacks which also give the user additional stat boosts. Also bribe senators into giving you rare items or abilities and set up your own cabinet where your foreign minister choosing from your own character set list.

Also when unlocking new characters you also see them making a vote pledge to gain votes via respectable or corrupt methods, this is another amusing addition to the game. The game has the usual tutorials for explaining each new feature which is worth checking out if you are new to the game. It However the game itself leaves hints within the game.

The only drawback with the PS Vita version is it brings nothing new to the series as a whole, no development in graphics we still have the high resolution 2D sprites on 3D backgrounds which makes the game so charming to me but not so much for the modern gamer.

stage clear

DIsgaea 4 Revisited still offers plenty of appeal to both new and old fans; just in a dofferent point of view. The story itself is great to follow and see the characters develop like Fuka the teenager who thinks decending to the Netherworld is all just a dream and wears a school uniform as the Prinny hides ran out. Then one of the big bosses takes a liking to Fuka and decides to become her adopted sister (against Fuka’s will as she thinks the demon is gross.)

The Final Word

This is one of the best JRPG’s on the handheld market holding together a great script with top notch voice acting and a great new cast of characters since the first game. Minor changes to the tactical aspects to keep things fresh and of course new additions to this game including new scenarios/story to follow, unlocking new character classes and lots of DLC. If you want to see development in the Disgaea series Disgaea 5 is what you want to watch out for.

Score: 9/10

Tokyo Game Show 2014 Glimpse by Aisha Anime

tpkyo game show logo

Hello from Japan ! Recently I was in Japan and was invited to attend Tokyo Game Show 2014 (TGS) seeing sneak peaks of new games to come and Japan only titles *sniff sniff*

We had Thursday and Friday exclusively for press only, the venue itself was triple the size of the Uk's Eurogamer. The room was purely dedicated to the branded merchandise and Mad Catz stage.

battlefield mug shot

With a whole new experience for Battlefield: Hotwire where we were escorted to get our mug shot then led into a planning room where we were explained the mission: Hot wire where you were either the police and stopped people stealing cars or you were stealing cars and trashing the police where possible. Then we were led on stage to have a proper game with 48 players ! I took the sly tactics and searched for a helicopter and sniper-ed people. While people played this game like GTA but without the prostitutes.

guilty gear booth babes

I managed to go to the special press desk to watch some highly skilled booth babes play Guilty Gear Xrd which was fantastic. The graphics up close really were better than the youtube footage. The special moves went in to slow motion and seamlessly into animated cut scenes. I was introduced to two new characters including: Sin Kiske, Bedman, Ramletherl Valentine, Elphelt and Leo.

Sin Kiske is Ky's son and Elphelt is obsessed with Sin and often tries to get him to sign a marriage certificate in the ending cut scene when she wins a fight. Overall the cut scenes are a work of art. The great thing about playing Elphelt is she has three stances, two of them include a sniper riffle and a shotgun for strategic fighting, hit them while their down !

elephelt gg

Hidden in the PlayStation village I got to play Disgaea 5 <3 Sadly it was all in Japanese text but I winged it in the battle preview so their are new classes available such as female zombie and a fairy. From what I saw one of the main character's is a little girl sitting on a morbidly obese Prinny. prinnies for the win people. New things added to battles is when a character kills an enemy the other enemies grow animosity towards them and 'revenge' appears on screen so the enemies will target that one character which is good is your play the game tactically and use the strong characters as bait. Also when the battle is over the top three characters used the most receive more benefits like extra points (not sure what for). graphics haven't really improved for the likes pf the PS4 so it could of been a handheld console title only really but will not dter me from buying it (provided someone donates me a PS4 ?!).

Final Fantasy: Type Zero was an interesting game to play, you take charge of three students from the academy and you can rotate between whop you want to control and attack. Frankly as soon as you run out of Magic points your screwed. It was all real time battles and as you ran towards a monster it was a seamless transition to battle so that was great  no loading time.

Bravely Second which was hard to play because of it being (Japanese) text heavy, it felt like I was playing the original game, same graphics and maps. This game has currently only been confirmed for Japan.

mh town

The longest queue at the vent was by far for Monster Hunter 4 enclosed in it's own tropical paradise, with 3DS  consoles ready for 15 minute missions for every participant. Not only did you get to pick a weapon of your choice and be aided by your trustee Felynes in maid cosplays you got kick some butt. Most of the game was in Japanese but this was the only booth with English instruction sheets and ladies explaining to me what to do - but hey I'm no amateur hunter I showed my skills and beat down the various dino bosses and carves the booty. At the end of the experience we received our own booty in form of a nice Monster Hunter bag to keep. The graphics looked sharper and the new map sytem was fantastic being able to zoom down to the particular room and see all the exits in the room.

I had initially came to track down a famous cosplayer attending called Vampy Bite me at the Mad CatZ stage but ended up walking into Street Fighter Tournaments featuring top players such as the Beast and Jaigo! To top things off on Saturday for my last try to find Vamp Bite me I ended up walking into a talk about Tekken 7 With Harada, the creator himself. Sitting at the front I test my Japanese to watch the trailer about Hitachi's lover entering the tournament, you know things are getting serious! But Harada was nothing but laid back wearing his Idol Master top with hidden Pikachu tee under neath showing the love for Pokken. Talking about new character Catilina and all the stuff he bought in Tokyo including his own series of Tekken figures. This was the most exciting news for me from Namco Bandai to add to fan girling I did at the large dragon next to the Dragon Ball Xenoverse stand !

MCM Expo London is one of the largest Comic Con's in the country. Here you can indulge in comics, anime,  sci fi, plushies, card games,  signed memorabilia,  celebrity signings, cosplay meetups and more.

This year see's the biggest influx of kawaii  influence. The Pop Asia stage featured lots of youTube  sensations including: Kelsey Kimono time, Scarlett Young  (Hyper Japan's Kawaii Star ambassador), HIMEZAWA, Cinnomom Purin, Harajuku Fashion show and a large number of kawaii stalls.

One of the highlights is seeing YouTube performer sing her new song released on iTune 'Pom Pom' which endorsements and a cameo from Becki Cruel in the music video, this young lady will be hitting it big soon.

Also  the Harajuku x Fashion show with the galaxy theme was quite a hit. All the ladies involved (including myself  stood onstage in a lineup grouped in various style.

After many updates online for MCM expo Midlands in February featuring voice actor Vic Mignogna (voice of Edward Elrich from Full Metal Alchemist), Hannah Spearritt (S CLub 7) and Danny John Jules (Kat from Red Dwarf, we were revved up for MCM Expo London. Mcm Expo Ireland did not disappoint either with voice actor Byrce Pepenbrook (VO for Eren from Attack on Titan, Maile Flanagan (VO for Naruto) and Danny John Jules again. Still we were awaiting for the guest line up for London.

persona cosplay

The turnout has broken the record of over 10,000 attendees, the organisers planned a head for this and split the event into two rooms accommodating everyone and giving enough space for chill out and eating areas.

We also had Honda smack bang in the middle showcasing their newest model of motorcycle. This was not a dummy model, this was real. You could even use the oculus rift to get the full experience. The best part was this model was based on the bike from the anime Akira so we had a lot of fans talking to the engineer and designer about it.

True to tradition, we we started getting tricles of information of guests. One of the real exciting last minute editions were the Director and producer of the anime Blue Excorcist. The anime was a roaring success in the Uk and recently releasing in the Uk.

We had the infamous photo challenges at various stalls including a new adidtion of the CEX tentacle toilet throne where you sit or stand and add an entertaining caption and the top three photos with the most likes get CEX vouchers.

There was also the packed out Bandai Namco panel with Hideo Baba (creator of Tales of Series) alongside Interview with Kazutoki Kono director of Ace Combat infinity,. Baba San revealed information on the new dark Takes of Xillia 2 and Tales of Hearts R while Kono san explained Ace Combat was free to download and great to enjoy online with friends. They even had quizes with exclusive Japan only prizes for people who answered questions correctly. Also a twitter based Q&A.

I also participated in the Harajuku Fashion show on the Pop Asia stage, this years theme was 'galaxies' so we had some added sparkle to our outfits be it related to clouds, stars, space, planets, metalic colours etc. The tournout was massive and was nice to be part of the showcase.

Other energetic performances on the Pop Asia stage included Himezawa, Scarlet Young, Cinnomon Purin, Milk Tea cafe and Kelsey Kimono Time all involving choreographed dances and kawaii outfits.

To rival the guest of Kat from Red Dwarf we had Kryten actor Robert Llewellyn, who was almost unrecognisable without his squarish makeup. It was great to see a lot of soap actors as part of memorabilia like Alfie Moon, Nina Wadia, Nasty Nick from Eastenders.

wendee lee mcm 14

For the voice actors section which i adore, MCM brought us a great selection of Wendee Lee (VO of Faye from Cowboy Bebop, Lucky Star and countless more character), Phil Lemar (Vo of Hermes from Futurama, Samurai Jack and more characters) and Greg Cipes (VO of Beast Boy from Teen Titans and more. All you had to do was purchase a copy of the latest MYM beforehand or at the MYM stall to get a signature from each Voice Actor. Sadly Ms. Lee had a family emergency the night before which cut her appearance short but she kindly came to the Q&A and a signing slot as to not dissapoint the fans, Thank you Wendee! Phil Lemar took great joy in signing rare Samurai Jack figures and Phil Lemar did lots of impressions before singing on stage for his panel.

Amongst that we had lots of great stalls here are my random three:

My savours of MCM, when my wig cap ripped and I went running there and begged them to borrow a wig cap, these guys not only gave me it with a smile but it was quite a high quality cap too, not one of those itchy ones. They are a wig company based actually travelled from the Netherlands, formerly known as Hairs4u2.

They sell kanekalon wigs, the best synthetic wigs on the market. If you want a private fitting, you are more than welcome to pop into the shop. They also sell wigcare, wigstands, wigcaps, funlenses, scarecrow fangs, custom made wigs, custom made items.

Beastly Beverages

dr who tea

Beastly Beverages is a small business based in sunny Brighton. Where they combine a love of tea with fandom and a generous dash of geekery, to bring you unique blends. Their tea is homemade and takes roughly a week to make custom blends. All have a unique art per lavour whether it be Harry Potter themed or My Little Pony. Without a doubt the most unique stall I found at MCM May 2014.
